Familia Martínez Bujanda’s winery Cosecheros y Criadores produces the Infinitus Tempranillo, named best value Vino Tint with regards to price and quality by reputed wine guide ‘Guía Peñín’ 2017.
Spanish Familia Martínez Bujanda is one of the historic wine making families in Rioja, with different elaborations in Rioja, Rueda and La Mancha
They own no less than five wineries: Finca Valpiedra (DOCa Rioja), Finca Antigua (DO La Mancha), Finca Montepedroso (DO Rueda), Viña Bujanda (DOCa Rioja) and Cosecheros y Criadores (Vinos de la Tierra de Castilla).
The family produces only wines from their own vineyards, thus having control over the entire process from harvest to bottling the wines, and their wine collection is extensive and varied owing to the diversity and richness of growing areas that are very different from each other.
The owners’ great grandfather Joaquín Martínez Bujanda founded the original winery in Oyón (Rioja) back in 1889, but the family expansion truly began in 1951 with Cosecheros y Criadores in the Castilla region.
Apart from being one of the largest viticultural areas in the world, Castilla is also home to the famous windmills at Alcazar de San Juan, which was the setting of the famous literary work Don Quixote. This region extends to the high plateau of central Spain (la Meseta) whose altitude allows for a wide daily variation that helps maintain good acidity in wines.
The winery’s name is derived from a historic term: Cosecheros y Criadores means ‘Growers and Agers’, or; those who produced wine for quick consumption and bulk commerce and those who, with the development of the ‘Modern Rioja’ in the second half of the 19th century, adopted the Bordeaux method of ageing and keeping the wines.
Though established in 1951, the winery boasts the latest wine technologies and over 6,000 American and French oak barrels to age innovative and versatile wines, conceived for the more “classic” consumers and for the more modern trends.
Cosecheros y Criadores has produced a great production of versatile quality wines, not least its Infinitus Tempranillo, the wine named best value with regards to price and quality by Spain’s reputed wine guide ‘Guía Peñín’ 2017. The winery itself describes the Infinitus range as “a modern and avant-garde range of wine, with a wide selection of grapes for consumers open to new trends, with a colorful and daring design.”
The Infinitus Tempranillo has a bright purple luminous colour. Its a dense wine, intense yet fresh and sweet with flavours of wild berries as well as smokey and spicey notes. An elegant, subtle, well-balanced wine that is easily paired with a variety of dishes, from light snacks to substantial meals. (Note: Other wines by Cosecheros y Criadores are the Candidato and Casa Solar)
