Connoisseurs Club 01

185.00

Many people prefer red wine when they want something special, so we have created a collection of some of the best value red wines from the most talked about regions and bodegas. Spain is, according to many leading international wine critics, the country that has the best and most wines under €35 of all wine-producing countries, the wines included in our Connoisseurs Club are in that category.

In this first collection box we find the following wines:

  • Pruno – According to Rober Parker, one of the best wines in the world under 15 dollars. Parker’s Wine Advocate (92p).
  • Les Terrasses – A wine produced by Alvaro Palacios I Priorat, the same winemaker who makes l’Ermita one of the world’s best wines. This wine receives fine scores from Robert Parker (94p) and James Suckling (93p).
  • Luis Cañas Reserva – Classic that can be seen on the shelves of every Spanish top restaurant, something that makes it difficult to imagine that not more Scandinavians have realized the greatness of Bodega Luis Cañas, one of the most respected names in the entire Spanish wine world.
  • Scala Dei Cartoixa – From the first and oldest wine producer in Priorat. We love their wines which are seen as some of the absolute best Garnacha wines in the world, and we love the story of the knights who are said to have visited Priorat to find farmland for the monks who came from Provence.

Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate:

In 2019, Les Terrasses was exceptionally high in Garnacha the tendency in this cuvée. Cinema suffered more from the mildew of 2020, and the final blend of the 2020 Les Terrasses Velles Vinyes was 72% Garnacha and 28% Cariñena, with 14.5% alcohol. It is gentle, honest and with typicality representing the wines from yesteryear but clean and harmonious, with nice balance and no oxidation or volatility, so an updated version of the traditional wines.” 94 Points

PRODUCER
Alvaro Palacios.

ABOUT THE PRODUCER
Alvaro Palacios, “the most sensational winemaker in Spain” according to Wine Spectator, created this estate in 1989 not far from Gratallops in the Priorat region. After his oenology studies in Bordeaux, he was supposed to return to the family farm in Rioja, but against his father’s wishes he decided to try his luck in this region, which was not very popular for wine at the time and very difficult to access because of its steep slopes. His dynamic approach suited his vineyard, as well as the entire region, as his wines were rewarded throughout his career. A true pioneer, it was with patience and passion that he revolutionized the Spanish wine panorama.

Robert Parker: 91+ Points
James Suckling: 90 Points

Bodega Luis Cañas is recognized worldwide for its quality wines which have won many awards and are served in famous restaurants such as Casa Lucio in Madrid.

The 2017 Reserva Selección de la Familia comes from a very challenging vintage, and the wine produced with Tempranillo and 15% Cabernet Sauvignon has high ripeness at 14.5% alcohol (it was a warm year after the crop was decimated by frost). It feels quite oaky with notes of incense and cigar ash intermixed with ripe fruit and some herbs after it spent 20 months in French and American oak barrels. Traditional with a twist and an herbal side to it. 101,225 bottles produced. – Luis Gutiérrez” Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate 91 pts

Scala Dei Cartoixa

The emblematic wine of Scala Dei Celler. A Garnacha-based wine with 20% Carignan, the autochthonous grape varieties par excellence, carefully selected from various small plots, located on steep slopes, the traditional Costers, and soils rich in slate, the characteristic “llicorella” of Priorat.
A refreshingly delicate, well-balanced and floral wine with beautifully subtle flavors of crisp red berries, tart cherries, soft violets, white pepper and delicious tobacco leaves. Fantastically beautiful.

Producer: Cellers de Scala Dei
Region: Priorat
Varietal: 80% Röd Grenache och 20% Carignan
Vintage: 2018
Format: 0,75L
Alcohol: 14,5 %
Temperature: 16-18°C
Robert Parker: 92+ Points
Guia Peñín: 92 Points

Scala Dei:

Cartoixa de Scala Dei is the meeting point of two lands: the dense, deep slate and the subtle, cool, high altitude clay. Grenache and Carignan grow there in the same vineyards that, for centuries, were cultivated by the Carthusian monks. They taught us how to make the wine that you can bring to your table today.”

Robert Parker: “The 2016 Cartoixa has a spectacular nose full of flowers, blood orange and red berries that is elegant, perfumed and nuanced. It’s mostly Garnacha with some 20% Cariñena from different vineyards and is produced in the traditional way, with an élevage in used oak that was very respectful of the character of the wine. It’s fresh, nuanced, complex and very elegant, with a medium-bodied palate with refined tannins and lively, effervescent acidity that makes you salivate.
This could very well be the finest vintage for the Cartoixa bottling. 15,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in June 2018.” 94 Points
