Celler de Capçanes is located in the Monsanto region of Spain.
Celler de Capçanes is about two hours from Barcelona and an hour from the coast (Tarragona) and is definitely worth a visit if you happen to be on the Spanish east coast this summer. Green valleys and high mountains make the Montsant region even worth a special journey. Priorat which is famous for its top ranked wines is just a few kilometers away, so its a little bit of a paradise for true wine lovers.
With a female winemaker who is considered the best in Spain and the third best in the world, you can be sure that everything produced here is of a very good quality.
The wines in this package have received awards and excellent reviews. For example, celebrated wine specialist James Suckling has awarded the Mas Picosa red 93 points and Lasendal 90 points.
The Capçanes vineyards offer a great variety of terroirs and soils, protected by the Sierra de Llaberia. The majority varieties are Garnacha Negra and Cariñena, some over 110 years old. The soil of clay, limestone and slate, gives the wines a unique intensity, freshness and minerality. In addition to the winery’s natural favourable attributes, the chief oenologist and technical director Anna Rovira is regarded as the best female winemaker in Spain and the third best female winemaker in the world.
