Description

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Selección comes from the best parcels carefully harvested and singled out as the most representative of Izadi’s essence and personality.

Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate (2019): “Here the 2019 Selección is more expensive than the Reserva (in some places it’s cheaper than the Crianza, which makes it slightly confusing). I see better integration of the oak here than in the 2018 Reserva, and they achieved good balance with the blend of 82% Tempranillo, 11 % Graciano, 4% Maturana Tinta and 3% Garnacha that reached 14.5% alcohol but feels balanced. It fermented by plot and village in 10,000-liter tanks and matured in French oak barrels for 14 months. 121,000 bottles and 500 magnums produced. It was bottled in July 2021.” 92 Points[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_progress_bar values=”%5B%7B%22label%22%3A%22BODY%22%2C%22value%22%3A%2270%22%7D%2C%7B%22label%22%3A%22TANNIN%22%2C%22value%22%3A%2265%22%7D%2C%7B%22label%22%3A%22ACIDITY%22%2C%22value%22%3A%2260%22%7D%5D”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_tta_accordion][vc_tta_section title=”Allergens” tab_id=”1669199419339-a1c6278f-7078617c-ff99a9a9-730f”][vc_column_text]Contains: Sulphites[/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”Tasting Notes” tab_id=”1669199419345-0ba7893e-a69c617c-ff99a9a9-730f”][vc_column_text]COLOUR

Bodegas Izadi

In 1987, well-known hotelier and owner of gastronomic Zaldiaran restaurant Gonzalo Anton, founded Bodegas Izadi to combine his two passions: Wine and gastronomy.

Five years later the winery opened up to the public as one of the first with its own restaurant, hotel and guided tours for visitors.

In 2005 the Orben project was begun after deliberate expansion and Finca Villacreces and Venus wineries joined Izadi and Orben under the umbrella name Artevino, family wineries, now with locations in the four prestigious regions Rioja, Ribera del Duero, Toro and Rueda.

Izadi, approaching a quarter of a century since its foundation, is ranked as one of the 100 best wineries in the world by the American magazine Wine & Spirits.

The symbol of Bodegas Izadi is a triangle. This figure represents the space made up by the towns of Villabuena de Álava, Samaniego and Ábalos, where the 178 hectares (70 of them their own) with which they work are located. In this triangle, Izadi has a hundred old plots facing south that are protected by the microclimate that prevails in Rioja Alavesa. In all of them, integrated viticulture criteria are followed, respecting the natural conditions of the vineyard and the environment as much as possible. These vineyards, with an average age of 45 years, are planted on poor soils that provide low yields and small but high-quality grapes, which represent the typical characteristics of the area.

Architecturally, the most interesting thing about this winery is the use it makes of a 50 meter drop to use gravity to make its wines, dividing the winery into 5 different heights. Each element is focused on pampering the characteristics of the grape at each stage of the process.

In addition, and since its birth, Izadi’s vocation is closely linked to the world of gastronomy, a facet that can be indulged in the same winery, where activities that combine wine and good food are often carried out.
