“The 2017 Reserva Selección de la Familia comes from a very challenging vintage, and the wine produced with Tempranillo and 15% Cabernet Sauvignon has high ripeness at 14.5% alcohol (it was a warm year after the crop was decimated by frost). It feels quite oaky with notes of incense and cigar ash intermixed with ripe fruit and some herbs after it spent 20 months in French and American oak barrels. Traditional with a twist and an herbal side to it. 101,225 bottles produced. – Luis Gutiérrez” Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate 91 pts

Extremadura is so named for its climate – extreme and harsh, with hot and dry summers and cold winters. The region produces bold, full-bodied wines due to this dry sunny weather that provides optimal ripening conditions and consistent sugar levels that are responsible for producing the wine’s potential alcohol content as well as shaping the depth of its flavours.
ABOUT THE PRODUCER
Bodegas Habla is housed in a sublime avant-garde architectural building, specifically designed with essentially functional criteria to allow an optimal workflow to create their amazing wines.
Bodegas Luis Cañas
Bodegas Luis Cañas is recognized worldwide for its quality wines which have won many awards and are served in famous restaurants such as Casa Lucio in Madrid.
Today, Bodegas Luis Cañas is situated near the original winery in Villabuena and equipped with state of the art technology – they were the first in Spain to use a Mistral sorting table.
Son Juan Luis has continued this pioneering spirit in improvement of the manufacturing processes and special care of the vines through following an agricultural system that privileges natural resources while limiting the impact on the environment.
Thus the bodega has cemented its enviable reputation as one of the most progressive wineries in the region. Food is one of the social foundations of the Basque Country and feeds into the style of wines crafted by Luis Cañas. Juan Luis says, “.. if I only ate salads, I would not make the wines I do.” The structure, texture and flavours – fruit wrapped in a silky, oak laced layer that seems unique to this part of Rioja – lend themselves to the many culinary delights found both in and outside Spain today.
